Honor Immigrant Moms

At the heart of all faiths is the shared belief that family is sacred. This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the important role of moms in all families.

Right now, the Trump Administration is enacting and proposing policies that do not honor immigrant moms and their families. The administration is imprisoning pregnant immigrant mothers in detention, separating moms and children seeking asylum, arresting moms in workplace raids, deporting immigrant moms, and proposing to strip away the ability of U.S. citizens to sponsor their moms and for moms to sponsor their children.

Moms make our families, congregations and nation work.

We call on our Members of Congress to honor all moms this Mother’s Day by upholding immigration policies that protect and unite immigrant families. Here are three ways to do that:

  • Stop the detention of pregnant moms
  • Defund immigration enforcement efforts that separate moms from their children in the interior U.S. and at the border.
  • Reject further limits to family-based sponsorship
  • Provide Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders a path to citizenship

As people of faith, we value the sanctity of the family and believe that the government should act to bring families together, not keep them apart. That’s been a basic element of our immigration system for the past fifty years, and we can’t abandon it.

No one benefits when mothers and their families can’t be together on Mother’s Day or any other day. We pray that Congress recognizes this truth and protects all families by opposing immigration policies that harm and separate mothers from their children.
