Everyone is a child of God and worthy of dignity and respect. God's doors are open to all. In turn, we must treat everyone equally.
The Supreme Court recently issued a narrow ruling in the case of Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission that let the bakery’s discrimination in this case stand. While this is disappointing, the court fortunately did not give businesses a constitutional right to discriminate.
We know it is immoral for any of us to discriminate against another person based on who they are or who they love. Since we are all created equal by God, we must reflect that in how we live our lives.
Many of our traditions reflect the Golden Rule: Treat others how you would like to be treated. Since I do not want to be discriminated against, I have a moral imperative to oppose discrimination against others.
Despite the Court’s decision, I will stay true to my own conscience and not discriminate. My faith won’t allow it.
