People of Faith Demand Justice for Ahmaud Arbery

The racist killing of Ahmaud Arbery cries out to heaven for justice. This unarmed black man who was gunned down while jogging, whose admitted killers were left unapprehended for nearly two months, is owed an immediate full investigation by the Department of Justice. His killing was indefensible, and the handling of the investigation and prosecution of his murder does not inspire confidence in the system.

As people of faith, we believe that all humans are created in the image of God, and thus deserve love, respect and justice. These principles move us to rebuke bigotry and the violence it inspires. Attorney General William Barr, a Catholic, must uphold our shared values by finding the truth and demanding accountability for injustice. We all deserve to feel safe in our homes and in our communities. No child of God should have to endure fear, hatred and violence because of the color of their skin.

The Department of Justice must rebuke the evils of white supremacy and racial profiling by formally investigating Arbery’s killing and the very delayed arrest of his killers.

As people of faith, we mourn Ahmaud Arbery and demand accountability for his killing. Attorney General Barr: find the truth and deliver justice.
