United in Faith

To Our Immigrant and Refugee Family,

As people of faith, we believe that you are our family, from the border to our places of worship, and we cry out with you for justice. We affirm this letter in the spirit of love, solidarity, and resolute commitment to celebrate your God-given dignity. Justice and love have no borders and cannot be stifled when people of faith and goodwill commit to living for each other.

In these trying times, we remain committed to taking action against hateful and immoral policies that target our neighbors and people seeking safety from violence and poverty. We support your leadership and we will show up in the ways that you need to defend our communities, especially when the risk is too great for you. We are one family united by our shared humanity that is greater than divisions like legal status or nationality. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. You and your families deserve peace and security.

As we witness inhumanity at the border -- babies dying in U.S. custody and in the desert, children suffering in abhorrent detention facilities, and families sent into danger to await their asylum claims -- our hearts break. As we hear of terror in our communities across the country -- raids tearing families apart, and people’s futures jeopardized by the ending of DACA, Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure -- we pray for safety. No child should live in fear of losing their mom or dad to deportation.

We recognize our government’s responsibility for these grave injustices and atrocities, and denounce them in the strongest terms.

As people of faith, we will continue to work to dismantle all systems of oppression that harm our immigrant neighbors, both at the border and in our communities nationwide. We will continue to call on Congress to reunite all families, hold the Trump administration accountable for their immoral actions and stop funding agencies that promote terror and tear our communities apart. In solidarity and with love, we will continue to fight for your dignity, your rights and your families.
