Governor DeSantis is bullying the Florida Legislature into attacking the representation of Black voters. His overtly partisan attempt to influence the political map-drawing process expands on Florida’s already atrocious history of racial discrimination in voting and attacks the dignity of Black Floridians.

Dear Legislators,

As your constituent, and a person of faith, I believe that the freedom to have a say in decisions that impact our lives is sacred and holy. Right now, our Governor and a handful of dishonest and partisan legislators are unconstitutionally and unethically rigging our congressional maps and our electoral system for their own gain. It is wrong and you must stop it. Now!

Despite our legislature recently passing a bipartisan map, Governor DeSantis has now thrown that process into chaos. His proposed map violates the Fair Districts amendments in a blatant attempt to disenfranchise thousands of Black Floridians by purposefully diminishing their representation in Congress, excluding them from decisions affecting their own communities. And now the legislative leadership of his own party is bending to his will. Instead of focusing on the real issues facing our state, the Governor and his allies are instead focusing on diminishing the voices of Black Floridians.

We all deserve safety, dignity and the freedom to choose our leaders through voting. Faithful Floridians from across the state and your district are calling on you to uphold the original map, reject Governor DeSantis blatant attempt to serve his own political interests and protect our freedom to vote. You must join with the majority of Floridians who hold sacred our freedom and democracy and REJECT Gov. DeSantis’ proposed map.
