Dear Members of Congress,
As people of faith, we believe all people are made in the image of God, and we take very seriously the call to love our neighbors as ourselves. Right now, millions of immigrants who have deep roots in our communities are living in imminent danger of deportation. To remedy this senseless injustice, we urge you to support the Dream and Promise Act (HR. 6), the Dream Act of 2019 (S. 874) and the SECURE Act (S.879), common-sense legislation that would provide a pathway to citizenship for people eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), people who hold Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and recipients of Deferred Enforced Departure (DED).
The Trump administration’s decision to end DACA protections for young adults and strip TPS and DED protections away from people fleeing violence and disaster was immoral and cruel. People who have built lives, raised children and are members of our communities live in constant fear of losing everything. It’s past time for Congress to provide a path to citizenship for all people currently protected by DACA, TPS, and DED so our beloved neighbors can live full, free and secure lives in our communities.
These bills reflect the values etched into the Statue of Liberty and woven throughout the scriptures and teachings of our diverse faiths. We call on all members of Congress to demonstrate their commitment to family values and the American dream by cosponsoring these bills and dedicating themselves to passing them without any additional measures that would further harm our communities.
